Acting Assistant Professor - Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences
Situated on the unceded, ancestral and traditional territory of the Duwamish and the Coast Salish peoples, the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the School of Medicine, University of Washington (UW), in partnership with Seattle Children’s Hospital (SCH), is seeking candidates for one full-time faculty member at the rank of Acting Assistant Professor.
Acting Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The anticipated start date is Fall 2023.
The candidate will serve as an integral member of the School Mental Health Assessment, Research, and Training (SMART) Center, a collaboration between the UW School of Medicine, College of Education, and School of Social Work. SMART has a strong commitment to justice and anti-racism in health, education, and society; and an overarching mission to promote high-quality, culturally-responsive school mental health programs, practices, and policies to meet the social, emotional, and behavioral needs of all students. The SMART Center accomplishes this mission via an array of federally-funded research projects from the Institute for Education Sciences (IES), National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), private foundations, and others sources; and through provision of training, technical assistance, and evaluation to school districts, counties, and states across the U.S. and Canada.
The candidate will be expected to develop and oversee the research and evaluation efforts of the SMART Center’s Training and Technical Assistance Core (TAC). In addition to multiple state and local education agency contracts, SMART-TAC receives resources from the SAMHSA-funded Northwest Regional (AK, ID, OR, WA) School Mental Health Technology Transfer Center (MHTTC), the U.S. Department of Education (DoE), and the State Implementation and Scaling-Up of Evidence Based Practices (SISEP) grant. In addition to pursuing their own funded research, the successful candidate will be expected to oversee relevant elements of the SMART Center’s U.S. DoE grants, including developing an online micro-credentialing program on implementation science for school practitioners and UW School of Medicine, Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences 1959 NE Pacific Street, Box 356560 Seattle, WA 98195-6560 evaluation and continuous quality improvement of a statewide initiative to provide conditional scholarships and pre- and post-service training to school social workers in Washington.
The faculty member will also lead refinement and implementation of the overarching evaluation framework for SMART-TAC using principles and strategies from implementation science. At a minimum this will include conducting evaluation of training and consultation to the school workforce in areas such as multi-tiered system of school supports (MTSS), school-wide suicide prevention, Tier 2-3 school mental health interventions, and social-emotional learning (SEL) programs; evaluation of efforts to improve equity and reduce racial/ethnic disproportionality in discipline and outcomes; and research using SMART-TAC data that can inform the school mental health and implementation science literatures. Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to training and expertise in behavioral health, education, and/or implementation science; and a history of successfully obtaining external funding for their research and/or technical assistance program.
Resources may be provided to the successful candidate to help further their program of research, including initial salary support and start-up costs (e.g., for research assistant time and other research costs).

The Department’s Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry
Primarily based at Seattle Children’s Hospital. Division faculty are part of integrated care programs at the Odessa Brown Children’s Clinic and pediatric clinics of the University of Washington with expansion to primary care practices affiliated with Children’s under way. Services at the hospital include an inpatient psychiatry program, well-staffed consultation service, mental health staffing 24-hours/7 days a week in the emergency department, mental health staff embedded in many pediatric medical subspecialty services, neuropsychology, a large autism center, and a range of clinics devoted to anxiety, depression, and behavior problems. The SMART Center is one of several Division research centers, which also includes the CoLab for Community and Behavioral Health Policy, Washington State Evidence-Based Practice Institute, and Wraparound Evaluation and Research Team.

Salary
The base salary range for an Acting Assistant Professor position will be $8,833 - $9,917 per month ($106,000 - $119,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
