Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) Department of Medicine and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) are jointly recruiting two (2) full-time faculty members in the UW Division of Hematology and Oncology, specializing in research and clinical care of patients with genitourinary (GU) cancer. This position would be at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank (without tenure due to funding) and include an equivalent appointment at Fred Hutch. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Assistant professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments and Associate Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that both align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to participate in ongoing funded clinical and laboratory research programs related to the biology and treatment of cancer. In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity and resources to develop his/her own clinical research program. Teaching responsibilities would involve oversight of trainees during outpatient and inpatient clinical activities, in concert with the educational programs of the division.  University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service

The GU medical oncology team comprises well known leaders in education, mentoring, clinical and translational GU oncology research, as well patient care. UW/Fred Hutch is the home of the Pacific Northwest Prostate Cancer Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE), one of eight Prostate Cancer SPOREs in the nation and is a member of CDMRP Clinical Trials Consortium. Urothelial / bladder cancer research is also very robust with numerous clinical trials, some of which have been practice-changing (resulting in FDA approvals), a rigorous, funded translational research infrastructure, and a highly interactive, inter/multidisciplinary approach in patient care. 

The base salary range for this position will be: $21,250 - $30,000 per month ($255,000 - $360,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include a Monthly Additional Compensation (MAC). Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. Anticipated start date would be July 1, 2024.

Qualifications

The candidate should have a demonstrated record and/or potential in clinical research with a primary focus on genitourinary cancers and clinical excellence.

Requirements include MD or DO (or foreign equivalent), completion of a fellowship in Medical Oncology and/or Hematology and American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) eligible or certified in Medical Oncology or Hematology (or foreign equivalent) and must be eligible for medical licensure in the state of Washington. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
