The division of Biological Sciences is a vibrant and growing community comprised of twelve full-time faculty. Our biology major was established in 2010 and graduates approximately 200  undergraduate students each year. All of our undergraduates participate in research, either within a faculty members research program, through an internship, or in a research course. The Biological Sciences faculty have recently moved into a brand new building, Innovation Hall, including state of the art labs, and facilities for plants and cell culture. We do not have vertebrate animal facilities on campus, but welcome research programs working with invertebrate, or cell systems. The campus also has a greenhouse, a 52-acre restored wetland, and a new environmental education center at St. Edwards State Park (EERC), all of which contribute to our mission of high quality undergraduate education and research. We believe students learn biology best by engaging in the scientific process, and we are committed to teaching practices that foster learning in students from a variety of backgrounds, including students from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in science.

The School of STEM is the largest school at UW Bothell, and we are a school committed to attracting diverse faculty and staff who create an exceptional student experience in support of our core values of Collaboration, Opportunities, Responsibility, and Engagement.  Our faculty members are dynamic educators who engage in innovative, evidence-based pedagogies.  Nearly every School of STEM faculty member engages undergraduates as research collaborators, and we pride ourselves on our community engaged teaching and research to realize our vision to be an indispensable partner in the region. As a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI) we focus on providing quality education for our diverse local and international students.  We offer twenty-three undergraduate and graduate degrees and eight minors across four Divisions (Biological Sciences, Computing and Software Systems, Engineering & Mathematics, Physical Sciences). The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus collocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, and our new 80,000 square-foot STEM building, Innovation Hall – the first shared academic building between a community college and university in the country.  We have also recently launched our Center for Biotechnology Innovation & Training (CBIT), which is housed in the School of STEM, to provide a trained, skilled workforce to support the growing biotechnology industry in Bothell and the greater Puget Sound region and facilitate cutting edge biotechnology research for faculty and students in collaboration with industry.

Opportunity is a core value of the School of STEM. Our mission is to provide equitable access to exceptional programs that integrate teaching and research to prepare our students to solve the problems and confront the challenges facing our communities, the region, the nation, and the world.

As an institution, UW Bothell offers over 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees, enhanced with a wide variety of minors and certification programs to help students build on their major(s) and/or expand their course of study into new academic disciplines. We are designated as a Primarily Undergraduate Institution (PUI), as well as an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).

Current enrollment is approximately 5,800 students, with over 95% of undergraduates from Washington State. Over 40% are first-generation college attendees, and more than half are students of color.

The University values hiring faculty and staff who have demonstrated a commitment to advance a culture grounded in mutual trust and respect, civility, and collaboration to create and support a safe and inclusive school community in which students, staff, and faculty are valued, connected, and positioned to thrive.
