Position Description

The Milgard School of Business at the University of Washington, Tacoma invites applications for the position of Assistant Teaching Professor in Management to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in management. This is a full-time, teaching-track position, with a 9-month service period that is eligible for a multi-year appointment and reappointment, upon successful reviews. This position is not eligible for tenure. The teaching course load is 8 classes per academic year, with an expected start date of September 16, 2024. 

 All faculty at the University of Washington engage in teaching, scholarship, and service within their school, the University, and their professional community. As teaching-track faculty, this position has an emphasis on instruction, and the successful applicant will be expected to teach a variety of courses including two required undergraduate core courses in managing people and managerial communications, a graduate level course in managerial communication, and other management core and elective courses. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in teaching and scholarship that strengthens and complements the Milgard School’s core values of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in pedagogy, teaching, and practice. The successful candidate will be expected to teach in multiple modalities, including online, hybrid and in-person, in an urban-serving campus environment with a diverse student body, many of whom are first generation college students.

The Milgard School of Business, named in recognition of a multi-million-dollar gift from the Milgard family, enjoys strong relationships with businesses and the South Puget Sound community. The AACSB-accredited Milgard School currently has more than 845 students in its undergraduate, Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Science in Accounting (MSAcc), Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA), and Master of Cybersecurity and Leadership (MCL) programs, in addition to undergraduate minors in business data analytics, sports enterprise management, and corporate responsibility. The School’s Centers for Leadership and Social Responsibility, Business Analytics, Financial Wellness, Entrepreneurship, and Wealth Creation offer opportunities for teaching, research, and community outreach related to its mission. Compensation and Benefits

 The base salary range for this position will be $10,000 - $10,556 per month ($90,000-$95,000 per academic year) for the 9-month service period, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications

At a minimum, candidates must have the following:

  1.  Master’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in management or equivalent field (a PhD or foreign equivalent in management or related field is also acceptable) and must demonstrate strong teaching abilities.
  2. Prior experience in teaching undergraduate and/or graduate management classes
  3. Prior expertise in curriculum development, and/or teaching in multiple modalities, including online, hybrid and in-person.
  4. Documented record of involvement, participation, and/or leadership within their pedagogical or practitioner communities that maintains qualification required for accreditation (AACSB) purposes.
