Position Description

The University of Washington Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine has an academic position available at the rank of Research Assistant Professor to provide advanced biostatistics support for faculty and trainees and to develop an independent portfolio of sponsored research funding.  This is a non-tenure track full-time position with an anticipated start date of February 2024 or thereafter.  Research Assistant Professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.  Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The base salary range for this position will be:  $9,500 - $12,500 per month ($114,000 - $150,000 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

The Department of Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine

Anesthesiology & Pain Medicine (APM) is one of the largest clinical departments in the School of Medicine with 245 clinical and research faculty members, 110 residents, 38 Postdoctoral Scholars and ACGME Fellows, 90 staff members, and 115 affiliated clinical faculty members.  Our current research funding from both government and private sources is $14 million.  The Department has eight divisions including Cardiothoracic Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, HMC Trauma Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Plastic & Reconstructive Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, Transplantation, Vascular Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and VA Puget Sound Health Care System Anesthesia and Pain Medicine. 

APM faculty, staff and trainees works across 5 University or University-affiliated medical centers: UWMC- Montlake; UWMC-Northwest, Harborview Medical Center, Seattle Children's Hospital, and the Veteran's Affairs Puget Sound Health Care System.  In addition, the extensive and well-funded APM research is conducted at UW School of Medicine’s South Lake Union campus, Seattle Children’s Research Institute and laboratories in the Magnuson Health Sciences complex adjacent to UWMC. 

Qualifications

Must have PhD or foreign equivalent in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Statistics or related field.  Must have postdoctoral training and experience in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Statistics and demonstrated ability to employ advanced analytic skills and methods.  Desired qualifications include an established record of publishing in peer-reviewed academic journals, experience working in academic research, particularly in medicine and healthcare, and ability to work collaboratively with faculty and trainees.
