Position Description

The Engineering & Mathematics Division of the School of Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) invites applications for a teaching track position in Mechanical Engineering at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. While primarily focused on teaching, teaching track faculty at the University of Washington are also expected to engage in scholarship and service. The successful candidate will join our faculty on a full-time basis for a nine-month academic year appointment beginning September 16, 2024.

 

The base salary range for this position will be $10,349- $10,552 per month during the nine-month academic year ($93,141-$94,968 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  

 

The successful candidates will be expected to embrace evidence-based education principles, teach a wide range of undergraduate courses, supervise capstone projects, engage in scholarship, participate in multi-disciplinary collaborative projects, and support and enhance learning for students from diverse backgrounds. Candidates will be considered across a wide range of teaching interests, including but not limited to: control systems, robotics/mechatronics, vibrations as well as finite element analysis (FEA) and computer-aided machining/manufacturing or in thermal sciences (thermodynamics, heat transfer, fluid dynamics), renewable energy, and HVAC.  

 

The Mechanical Engineering (ME) program is part of the Division of Engineering & Mathematics, which is housed in the School of STEM. In addition to Mechanical Engineering, the division has programs in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering (jointly run with the division of Computer Systems & Software), and Mathematics. The program offers a BS in Mechanical Engineering with an emphasis on hands-on experience, collaborative problem-solving, and societal implications in the design, production, and implementation of mechanical and thermal fluid systems. The Mechanical Engineering program is comprised of 6 full-time and several part-time faculty members who have vast academic and industrial experience. The ME faculty have expertise in a broad range of areas, including biomedical engineering, robotic surgery, commercialization of medical devices, advanced materials characterization, marine systems, power/energy, and engineering policy.

UW Bothell offers over 60 undergraduate and graduate degrees, enhanced with a wide variety of minors and certification programs to help students build on their major(s) and/or expand their course of study into new academic disciplines.

 

Current enrollment is approximately 5,800 students, with over 95% of undergraduates from Washington State. Just over 40% are first-generation college attendees, and more than half are students of color.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, or foreign equivalent, by the date of hire OR 
  • M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related fields, or foreign equivalent, plus 1 year (or 12 months) teaching experience or significant industrial experience in relevant subject area(s), by the date of hire
