Title: Postdoctoral Fellowship in Healthy Aging in HIV

Position Details

Position Description

The University of Washington School of Nursing has a history of developing scientists in healthy aging across populations. We are pleased to announce a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Healthy Aging in HIV to start in October 2023. The purpose of the postdoctoral position is to prepare scholars for academic research careers in healthy aging. The postdoctoral fellow will be supported for one year of training with a second year of funding available based on satisfactory progress in the first year. The salary range is $65,508-$68, 604 per year. We are seeking highly motivated individuals for the following position:

People living with HIV are living longer and experience higher rates of symptoms and comorbid chronic health conditions than those living without HIV. Under the direction and mentorship of members of the Webel Research Lab, the postdoctoral fellow will join a high-performing, multidisciplinary team exploring how to promote healthy aging in adults living with HIV using non-pharmacological strategies (e.g., physical activity and diet intake). Our laboratory is currently developing two NIH-funded multi-site parent grants and their additional related supplements:

-          HEALTH Study: an exercise randomized trial for older people with HIV (≥ 50 years of age) testing the effects of high-intensity interval training on different outcomes, and a biobehavioral coaching and mHealth text messaging intervention to promote long-term adherence to physical activity. Outcomes include exercise capacity, muscle strength, body composition, physical activity levels, mitochondrial function, and cognitive function.

-          PROSPER Study: a longitudinal observational study determining which aspects of physical activity and diet quality are associated with different outcomes, including symptom burden, sarcopenia, and frailty.

Postdoctoral Scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.
