Position Description

The Division of Engineering and Mathematics in the School of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at the University of Washington Bothell (UW Bothell) seeks dynamic educators who have expertise in teaching for Part-Time Lecturer Temporary appointments beginning in autumn quarter 2023. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to innovative and effective pedagogy, have expertise in working with diverse student populations, and are open to collaborating with colleagues. The appointments are renewable on a quarterly basis, and are contingent upon instructional needs, part time faculty reappointment guidelines, and Division approval.

Compensation is $6,000 per 5-credit course over a three month quarter. The base salary for this position will be $6,000 per month, to be prorated based on FTE, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 5-credit lecture sessions are one course equivalent, calculated at 33.33% FTE. Appointments are renewable on a quarterly basis, and are contingent upon instructional needs, part time faculty reappointment guidelines, and Division approval.

Positions in this title are not promotion eligible. The desired start date is subject to the first quarter of appointment. Appointment service dates align with the annual academic calendar. Summer: June 16-August 15; Autumn: September 16-December 15; Winter: December 16-March 15; and Spring: March 16-June 15.

The candidate will be primarily responsible for teaching introductory mathematics courses, including developmental mathematics courses, precalculus mathematics courses, and calculus sequence courses. Other teaching opportunities may include areas of specialty, e.g., introductory probability and statistics and financial mathematics. The School is housed in several buildings on a vibrant campus colocated on a restored 100-acre wetland with an active salmon stream, including the 74,000 square-foot Discovery Hall teaching and laboratory facility, with a new 77,000 square-foot STEM building in collaboration with Cascadia College opening in Fall 2023.

Qualifications

Minimum requirements for the position include:

  • Masters degree in mathematics or related field required by time of appointment.
