Duties

The successful candidate is expected to perform their job duties in accordance with the Washington State Department of Health scope of practice. Duties include:

1.      Massage Therapy: Perform therapeutic massage sessions using various techniques, such as Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, myofascial release, or manual lymphatic drainage. Adjust treatment intensity, duration, and frequency based on patients' responses and ongoing assessments.

2.      Patient Assessment: Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients to understand their medical history, current condition, and specific treatment goals. Evaluate their physical limitations, pain levels, range of motion, and any contraindications for massage therapy.

3.      Treatment Planning: Develop individualized treatment plans based on patients' medical conditions, treatment goals, and recommendations from healthcare professionals. Determine appropriate massage techniques and modalities to address patients' needs while considering any restrictions or precautions.

5.      Pain Management: Help patients manage pain related to their medical conditions, post-operative recovery, or chronic illnesses through massage therapy. Utilize techniques to reduce muscle tension, increase circulation, promote relaxation, and release endorphins for pain relief.

6.      Rehabilitation Support: Assist in the rehabilitation of patients recovering from injuries, surgeries, or other medical interventions. Incorporate massage techniques that help restore range of motion, improve muscle strength and flexibility, and enhance overall functional recovery.

7.      Collaborative Care: Collaborate with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure an integrated approach to patient care. Communicate regularly with the healthcare team to provide progress updates, discuss treatment plans, and address any concerns or adjustments needed.

8.      EMR Documentation: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including initial assessments, treatment plans, session notes, and progress reports. Ensure compliance with HIPAA and UW Medicine patient privacy regulations and documentation standards.

9.      Patient Education: Educate patients about the benefits of massage therapy in their specific medical context. Provide guidance on self-care techniques, including stretches, exercises, and lifestyle modifications that can complement their treatment and promote overall wellness as permitted within scope of practice in Washington state.

11.  Professional Development and Continuing Education: Engage in continuous professional development to stay updated on the latest research, techniques, and trends in medical massage therapy. Attend relevant workshops, conferences, and seminars to enhance knowledge and skills.
