Title: Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C), SPTC CNS/H&N, Radiation Oncology

Position Details

Position Description

The Department of Radiation Oncology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C). The successful candidate’s primary site of practice will be at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) Proton Therapy Center located on the campus of UW Medicine Northwest Medical Center in North Seattle and is fully staffed by UW Department of Radiation Oncology faculty physicians. It is the sole Proton Center in the Pacific Northwest and therefore a tertiary referral site for the entire 5-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region.

The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as Teaching Associate with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2024 or earlier.  Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms.  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner with an integrated role which includes clinical and education components. The ARNP/PA-C works in collaboration with physicians and actively coordinates the complex care of cancer patients undergoing proton beam therapy. Under the general supervision of an attending physician, the successful candidate will help care for patients with central nervous system (CNS) cancers  and head and neck (H&N) cancers receiving proton radiation treatment.  Successful candidates must possess the ability to function independently.

Specific responsibilities include:

  1. Manage care coordination for patients with CNS and H&N cancers with referring physicians/medical oncology/surgery.
  2. Provide scheduled and unscheduled care for CNS and H&N cancers patients undergoing daily radiation treatment.
  3. Manage a surveillance/survivorship program for CNS and H&N cancers patients after completing radiation treatment.

Expected work hours are likely Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.

NOTE: This position may require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC) facility. FHCC requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at a FHCC facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the FHCC policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment.

The base salary range for this position will be: $9,167 - $15,000 per month ($110,004 - $180,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

  • Current valid Washington State license as Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (ARNP) or Physician Assistant (PA-C).
  • If ARNP, current Washington State license to practice as a registered nurse.
  • Graduate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program or Physician Assistant program.
  • Nationally certified ARNP/PA-C.
  • Active DEA license.
  • Experience working with high-risk patients and clinical teaching experience.
  • One or more years’ experience working with complex patients.
  • One or more years’ history of effective in working in an interdisciplinary, collaborative team environment as proven through supervisory references.
