Position Description

The University of Washington School of Law seeks applications for an open-rank position (Visiting Lecturer, Lecturer full-time temporary, acting assistant professor, or professor of practice) to teach or co-teach comparative law, Islamic Law, and/or conduct research and scholarship in the law school and potentially in other departments of the university that would benefit from the scholar’s expertise. UW Law’s Sustainable International Development program would benefit from the international perspective and global experience. Graduation from the law school’s Legal Education Support Program - Afghanistan, LESPA program is a plus, but not mandatory. 

This is an annual appointment with the possibility of a second-year appointment. This is a full-time, non-tenure track position with an anticipated start date in Autumn 2023. The aforementioned titles in the School of Law have a 9-month service period. However, the work for this position runs over a 12-month period, meaning the candidate will be paid and working for the 12-month period.

The base salary range for this position will be between $5,000-$5,833 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. 

Qualifications

  • LL.M. and/or Ph.D. from UW Law through the LESPA program
  • Strong research and writing skills.
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds.
