The University of Washington School of Nursing endorses the Future of Nursing 2020-2030: Charting a Path to Achieve Health Equity report’s recognition that Nursing has a major role in aligning public health, health care, social services, and public policies to eliminate health disparities and achieve health equity.  The report also notes that nurses must incorporate a health equity lens learned in academic education and points out that the decade ahead demands a more diverse nursing workforce prepared to address systemic inequities that fuel health inequalities. The Department of Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing is committed to promoting wellness and health equity for children, women, and families across the lifespan from primary to acute and palliative care, and from prevention to recovery. The nationally ranked University of Washington School of Nursing offers Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN), Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP; covering a range of practice specialties), and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree programs.  We are looking for candidates at the Assistant Teaching Professor rank (Teaching Track). Candidates will be expected to engage in teaching and mentoring in the undergraduate ABSN and BSN programs.  

The successful candidate will be expected to:   

  • work collaboratively across disciplines, cultures, and academic backgrounds   

  • teach didactic and clinical courses, supervise clinical internships in different organizations across healthcare and community settings, advise and mentor students, serve on BSN curricula committee, participate in ABSN and BSN admission reviews, connected teaching, and program-building with the undergraduate faculty team.  

  • have understanding of, and experience in, teaching about health inequities, anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion that reflects the increasingly diverse general and patient populations of the U.S. with the passion and promise to eliminate health inequities    

  • actively bolster our efforts to in program development and quality improvement, and advance health equity through our curriculum, scholarship, service, and practice  

This is a full-time position (1.0 FTE), 9-month appointment, not tenure eligible. The appointment is eligible for a multi-year contract.  Base salary will depend on qualifications, background, and experience. The base salary range for this position will be $9,200 - $9,800 per month based on 100% FTE. The anticipated start day is September 16, 2023.  

The Department of Child, Family, and Population Health Nursing excels at supporting scholarly activities and fostering the academic and professional growth of faculty and students. Faculty also have partnerships with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, the Refugee Women’s Alliance, Public Health Seattle-King County, and Washington State Children’s Administration, among others.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a master's degree or doctor of nursing practice (DNP) degree (DNP preferred) or foreign equivalent and a current license or eligibility for licensure as a registered nurse in the state of Washington. In addition, candidates should have a minimum one year experience teaching ABSN and/or BSN program clinical and didactic courses, and practice education and leadership experience in healthcare or community settings.
