Position Description

The University of Washington's Department of Ophthalmology is currently recruiting for a full-time PhD position specializing in adaptive optics ophthalmic imaging. The candidate is expected to run a cutting-edge research program on imaging retinal functional activity using novel optical imaging techniques such as optoretinography and adaptive optics. 

This position is based at UW Medicine’s South Lake Union Campus in Seattle at the Vision Science Center.  This position is without tenure due to funding. Anticipated start date is summer 2023.

Associate Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). This faculty appointment is paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June).

The base salary for this position will be in the range of $11,667 to $16,667 per month ($140,004 - $200,004 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a US Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.  

This appointment at the rank of Associate Professor WOT and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered.

Responsibilities include the development of an independent research program in applying modern optical techniques such as adaptive optics and optical coherence tomography to the study of retinal and visual function.  Collaboration with the strong retinal physiology group in the UW Vision Science Center is encouraged. Demonstration of service and leadership at local, national and international level is encouraged.

Qualifications

Evidence of extramural funding and productivity is essential. Eight to ten years of experience working with human subjects and those with retinal diseases is required.

Qualified candidates of all levels of experience will be considered. This would be a multi-year appointment with a 12-month service period.

Candidates must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent) in optics, physiological optics, vision science, or related field.

A demonstrated record of teaching and scholarly research is required.
