The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology at the University of Washington is seeking a candidate for appointment as the Director of Anatomic Pathology, Associate Professor or Professor, without tenure (WOT) for reasons of funding, rank is commensurate with experience.

This position will serve as the Director of Anatomic Pathology and provide clinical oversight of Anatomic Pathology services across UW Medicine sites, including UWMC-Montlake, UWMC-Northwest, Harborview Medical Center. The primary responsibility for this position is to ensure the clinical excellence of AP services in a leadership capacity, through coordination of faculty and staff resources, oversight and delegation of medical directorship responsibilities, oversight of graduate medical education leadership to meet clinical service needs while providing outstanding training, and support of the Department’s clinical and translational research efforts. In addition to oversight of AP clinical services, this position will represent the needs of the subspecialty services and faculty to the leadership of UW Medicine’s hospitals as well as the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, in collaboration with the Anatomic Pathology Administrative Director. Clinical duties are flexible and will be aligned with the candidate’s experience within our organization’s subspecialty practice model. In this role, the successful candidate will assure that patients are first, maintain a culture of compliance, embody professionalism, oversee the scheduling of service coverage and identify gaps that will require faculty recruitment, promote professional development of trainees and junior faculty, and foster a collaborative community in which we leverage our talents, abilities, and resources to maximal impact in clinical service, teaching, and research. 

The individual in this position will need to work closely with the Chiefs of Service at our different sites of clinical activity. Chiefs act as medical consultants to the hospital pathology laboratories at each site and assure compliance of hospital laboratory operations at each site. Chiefs are appointed by the different hospitals on the recommendation from the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology.

Associate and Full Professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position is full-time and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023 but is flexible.

The base salary range for this position will be: Associate Professor range: $21,903 to $30,049 per month ($262,831 to $360,592 annually); Professor range: $26,023 to $39,377 per month ($312,274 to $472,526 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Candidates must have a demonstrated record in anatomic pathology in one or more leadership roles in addition to academic scholarship; an academic rank at the associate/full professor level; an M.D. or D.O. degree (or foreign equivalent); be Board certified - or eligible for certification - in Anatomic Pathology; and must qualify for a license to practice medicine in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
