Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a full-time faculty member in Radiation Oncology who will join the community based Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC) Peninsula clinic in Poulsbo, Washington; a successful established community cancer center with 3.5 radiation oncologists as well as medical oncology services serving patients on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsulas. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be expected to advance the department's mission of clinical care, research, education, and equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).  Women and minorities are especially encouraged to apply.

The selected candidates will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as a Clinical Assistant Professor with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023 or earlier.  Clinical Assistant Professors hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The radiation oncology service provides a full complement of radiation treatments including SBRT and brachytherapy services. Successful candidates will have interest and strong commitment to providing exceptional patient care and service. Responsibilities of the radiation oncologist include evaluation and treatment of patients, participation in tumor boards as well as community events to build and maintain the site of practice. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to clinical program growth as well as educational, scientific and outreach efforts relating to these programs.

NOTE: This position may require work to be performed on-site at a Fred Hutch Cancer Center (FHCC) facility. FHCC requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at a FHCC facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the FHCC policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment.

Department Overview:

UW Medicine and its partner institutions (UWMC, Fred Hutch Cancer Center including its Proton Center, Seattle Children’s Hospital, VA Puget Sound, Harborview Hospital) provide an extensive and outstanding array of radiation oncology modalities for cancer patients. The Department of Radiation Oncology treats over 2,800 patients annually from a multi-state region covering over 25% of the U.S. geographic area. The University of Washington has the only Radiation Oncology department in North America that has clinical particle beam delivery systems for both proton and neutron therapy. Our clinical approach is collaborative with numerous multidisciplinary clinics, tumor boards and disease specific chart rounds. We are a part of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center and have strong translational and clinical research collaborations. The Department has 29 physicians, 8 advanced practice providers, 26 physicists, and 3 research faculty. Educational opportunities in our residency programs, fellowship programs and post-doctoral fellowships abound. A strong interest and commitment to research and education is expected, as well as strong collaboration with the multidisciplinary clinical teams.

The Kitsap Community

The city of Poulsbo is located in the northern part of Kitsap County and is in proximity to the Pacific coast with ample year-round recreational activities including skiing, boating, walking, hiking, and biking in close vicinity. Natural beauty lies within close reach on the Kitsap and Olympic Peninsula with expansive parks, forests, lakes and mountains. Poulsbo is in close proximity of Bainbridge Island, home to one of the best school districts in the State of Washington and is an easy ferry commute to the city of Seattle that offers ample opportunity to attend professional sports venues, a myriad of museums and restaurants, music and other cultural events.

The base salary range for this position will be: $27,915 - $37,500 per month ($334,980 - $450,000 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive via the UW Physicians practice plan.

Qualifications

The successful applicant must have an MD or a DO, or foreign equivalent, and be board certified or eligible in Radiation Oncology with the American Board of Radiology (ABR); candidates who are ABR board eligible must become board certified within two years of faculty appointment.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
