Position Description

The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and the University of Washington (UW) are jointly recruiting a full-time faculty member at the Associate or Full Professor level without tenure due to funding (WOT), in the Human Biology Division of the Fred Hutch and the Division of Medical Oncology, Department of Medicine at UW. The primary appointment will be in the Human Biology Division of Fred Hutch.  Academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and full professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. 

This position is paid directly by Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (Fred Hutch) and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to Fred Hutch for information about compensation for this position.

We are seeking a physician-scientist in the area of Gastrointestinal (GI) Oncology capable of providing leadership in growing and galvanizing the GI malignancy program at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center. The ultimate goal will be to develop programs and obtain program-level funding to develop a center of excellence in GI Oncology. The selected individual for the advertised position is expected to contribute to our mission of delivering outstanding clinical care and developing excellence in research in the area of Gastrointestinal Medical Oncology.

Fred Hutch and University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching responsibilities will involve oversight of advanced practice providers and fellows during inpatient and outpatient rotations, and delivery of informal teaching sessions and formal lectures to providers and the general medical community.

Fred Hutch is an independent, nonprofit organization providing adult cancer treatment and groundbreaking research focused on cancer and infectious diseases. Based in Seattle, Fred Hutch is the only National Cancer Institute-designated cancer center in Washington.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have expertise in basic science and translational research, with a record of developing and leading programs; providing vision; catalyzing new collective efforts; implementing technology; and working collaboratively with researchers and clinicians to drive clinical innovation. The ideal candidate should have a substantial record of achievement in areas that may include, but are not limited to mechanistic lab science, sustained R01 (or equivalents) funding, leadership, collaborative team building, collective efforts with clinical impact. We welcome candidates with a broad array of research interests, especially those with a record of transformative scholarly work in cancer biology, GI-physiology, and GI-based research technology development.

Applicants must have a medical degree, or foreign equivalent, and board certification in Medical Oncology (or foreign equivalent). In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
