Position Description

The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery within the University of Washington School of Medicine is recruiting for one full-time Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (ARNP/PA) positions at the rank of Teaching Associate with an estimated start date in Summer 2023. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The base salary range for the positions will be: $9,167 - $14,334 per month ($110,004 - $172,008 annually) commensurate with years of experience as a licensed ARNP or PA, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Other compensation associated with this position may include payments for vacancy coverage or premiums for factors such as acuity, nights, call should they apply to service. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Position Overview

A Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and management of pre/post operative patients at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC). The ARNP/PA-C assesses and manages the pre and post operative phases of treatment, addresses treatment toxicities, performs procedures, monitors for cancer progression or recurrence, and consults with professional peers as needed. They work collaboratively with the  treatment teams to coordinate care of their patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborates and consults with multiple surgery attending physicians & other disciplines/services to ensure safe, effective, and timely treatment as well as continuity of patient care. 
  • Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s
  • Evaluates and manages patient in their pre and post operative stages as well as long-term surveillance
  • Performs procedures according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice
  • Participates in the conduct of cancer clinical research
  • Provides patient, caregiver, and peer education
  • Communicates effectively with inpatient and outpatient teams
  • Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees
  • Active member of the FHCC Rapid Response/Code Team

Qualifications

  • Strong flexible team player with a can-do attitude is a must! Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential.
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program required.
  • Washington state PA or ARNP & DEA licensure required.
  • ACLS required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required. 
  • One year of ARNP or PA-C experience in Surgery/Surgical Oncology strongly preferred  
  • EPIC EMR experience preferred
