Position Description
The University of Washington, Department of Pediatrics, Division of General Pediatrics, invites applications for a full-time faculty position as a Pediatric Sports Medicine clinician and Director, Section of Pediatric Sports Medicine.
The candidate will be full-time faculty member at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor level, without tenure due to funding (WOT), on the Clinician-Scholar track, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Assistant professors are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate and full professors hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service. Anticipated start date is Summer/Fall 2023.
The full-time position includes:
- Clinical Pediatric Sports Medicine (approximately 60% time). The candidate will join 7 other pediatricians and affiliated physicians in the Section of Pediatric Sports Medicine. Clinical work includes the full range of ambulatory pediatric sports medicine and associated minor procedures. Most clinical effort is co-located with Pediatric Orthopedics and supported by in-clinic athletic trainers.
- Section Head (approximately 20% time). The medical director for the Section of Pediatric Sports Medicine reports to the Division Chief, General Pediatrics, and maintains close coordination with peers in Orthopedic Surgery and Seattle Children’s ambulatory administration. The Section Head will be responsible for program development and planning, deployment of physician staff, quality assurance and alignment of program resources with identified needs. The Section Head will also mentor junior faculty, support trainees across disciplines, and work to ensure that all faculty have the support and recognition required to find satisfaction and success in their Sports Medicine careers.
- Scholarly Effort (approximately 20% time). The candidate will have protected time to work on independent or collaborative research, academic projects, or educational scholarship in sports medicine to support the mission of the department.
The Section of Pediatric Sports Medicine enjoys a robust relationship with a large school-based athletic training program operated by the Hospital with consultation from our faculty. There are opportunities for high school and collegiate sideline and training room coverage. There is an accredited Pediatric Sports Medicine Fellowship. Section faculty have a diversity of interests, including performance optimization, the care of elite athletes, biofeedback and complementary medicine, community-based physical literacy, and sideline care. Several faculty serve on the medical staff of US national teams.
All clinical activities include work with medical students, residents or fellows. In that role, the candidate’s responsibilities will include clinical supervision, teaching, evaluation, and feedback.
All faculty are evaluated and promoted based on clinical excellence, professionalism, teaching, and contributions to the mission of the Hospital and Division. Clinician Scholars are also evaluated on the quality and production of relevant scholarship.
The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors $12,010 - $18,014 per month ($144,120 - $216,168 annually), Associate Professors $13,441 - $20,161 per month ($161,292 - $241,932 annually), Professors $16,729 - $25,093 per month ($200,748 - $301,116 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization
Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).
Qualifications
The successful candidate will have earned an MD or DO or foreign equivalent and should be board certified in pediatrics with certification in Primary Care Sports Medicine.
In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
