Position Description

The Quantum Defect Lab (QDL) at the University of Washington is seeking two Postdoctoral Scholars in the area of experimental quantum information beginning March 2023. Postdoctoral Scholar appointments are full-time, 12-month appointments for a period of up to three years subject to funding and mutual agreement. At the QDL, we seek to advance quantum technologies based on defects in crystals. Research areas include defect synthesis, characterization of fundamental properties, quantum sensing, and nanophotonic device integration for quantum network applications. Applicants will be considered in all areas of experimental quantum information, semiconductor physics and optics. Experience in optical microscopy, optical spectroscopy, photonic design, nanofabrication, RF design and cryogenics is desirable but not required. 

The base salary range for this position will be $5457 - $5834 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.


Applicants must have a PhD (or foreign equivalent degree) in physics, electrical engineering, materials science or related fields by the date of the appointment.
