Position Description

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and the University of Washington (UW) are recruiting for a full-time (100% FTE) Clinical Instructor, Clinical Assistant Professor, or Clinical Associate Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine (PCCSM) for inpatient and outpatient clinical services with patient care efforts based at the VA Puget Sound. Salary and academic appointment at the University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. This position will include clinical bedside teaching of medical students, residents and fellows.

Clinical faculty positions hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1–June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July–June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Anticipated start date would be July 2023 or later.

These positions are paid directly by the Veterans Administration Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS) and receives no UW compensation. Please refer to the VAPSHCS for information about compensation for this position.

Qualifications

Requirements include an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and Internal Medicine Board Eligibility to be considered. Candidates with Board eligibility or certification in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine or Critical Care Medicine are encouraged. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

Applicants must be U.S. Citizens (permanent residents may be appointed only if it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens).

  1. Cover letter – please provide a concise description of training, work experience, scholarly interests and career goals.
