Position Description

The University of Washington (UW) Tacoma invites applications for multiple Lecturers of Chemistry in the Division of Science and Mathematics (SAM) within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS) to teach lecture and laboratory sections of General or Organic Chemistry.  These part time temporary positions with quarterly (December 16-March 15 for Winter and March 16-June 15 for Spring quarter) service periods.

The base salary range for this position will be $2100 per month per 6-credit laboratory course (0.4 FTE) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Qualifications

These positions require an earned Master's degree or higher in Chemistry or a relevant field and are contingent on funding. The successful candidate must be able to teach introductory General Chemistry or Organic Chemistry sequence of courses with laboratory sections.  They will have firm grounding in both the theoretical and laboratory aspects of chemistry, and preferably have been the instructor of record for at least one section of these courses or have several years of serving as a teaching assistant in these courses. An ability to convey, model, and promote best safety practices in lab is paramount.  The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to supporting diverse student populations through inclusive teaching practices and will integrate effective pedagogical techniques and technologies into teaching/learning to help students achieve competency/mastery in scientific reasoning and application. The candidate will also have experience with fair and consistent grading practices.
