The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington is seeking an open rank faculty position as full-time Assistant Professor (without tenure by reason of funding), Associate Professor (without tenure by reason of funding) or Full Professor (without tenure) on the Clinician Scholar pathway to join the Division of Cardiology. Academic rank at the time of appointment is commensurate with experience and qualifications. Anticipated start date is Winter 2023

Assistant Professors  are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

Associate and Full Professors  hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. 

The base salary range for this position will be: Assistant Professors MD $16,535 - $24,803 per month ($198,420 - $297,636 annually), Associate Professors MD $19,719 - $29,578 per month ($236,628 - $354,936 annually), Professors MD $25,495 - $38,242 per month ($305.940 - $458,904 annually) commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by Children’s University Medical Group (CUMG) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through Children’s University Medical Group practice plan. Additional administrative responsibilities may be offered to a specific candidate with appropriate experience and qualifications which may result in an administrative supplement (ADS).

General expectations:

  • The primary responsibility of this position will be as an academic clinical pediatric cardiologist specializing in heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and heart transplantation.
  • Engage in the interpretation of imaging, catheterization, laboratory medicine, pathology, physiological and scientific data in the field of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, and transplantation.
  • Provides all aspects of care and consultation, direct and indirect, to this complex patient population.
  • Engage with referring providers and families to assure that the needs of patients and families are being met.
  • Serve as a role model to trainees, colleagues and staff, and provide behavioral based feedback to team members as needed.
  • Participate in task forces and committees as requested by the applicable service line or Seattle Children’s Leadership.

Clinical Care:

  • Serve as an inpatient consultant in the cardiac, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units, and as a primary attending on the Heart Failure and Transplant Inpatient Service.
  • Attend patient rounds and complete consultation and inpatient notes.
  • Contribute to the multidisciplinary care of the Heart Failure and Transplant patient population; supporting safe, efficient and high-quality services.
  • Participate in Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Transplant clinics.
  • Supervise the Resource service by working with nursing coordinators to triage and provide care to patients at home.
  • Provide recommendations to referring providers in the region at large.
  • Ensure appropriate coordination and integration with other services in the care of their patients.


  • Work with administrative and clinical leaders to support quality and performance improvement to ensure that program goals are attained.
  • Participate in task forces and committees, as applicable to Service line or Seattle Children’s leadership.


  • Support timely review of any patient safety events.
  • Respond in a timely manner to physician or patient related feedback or complaints.
  • Support legal, regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Support and participates in M&M program and identifies opportunities for improvement
  • Provide input to continuing education activities designed to maintain and enhance competencies
  • Maintain professionalism with regards to billing, documentation, conference attendance and collaboration with peers, trainees, staff, patients and families.


  • Build or maintain a high level of productivity commensurate for rank and for the clinician scholar pathway in either educational, original scientific, or quality and outcome type of investigation.
  • Seek opportunities to become actively involved in scientific investigation.
  • Provide expertise in research methods through training or proven experience.


  • Support cardiac clinical educational programs for nursing, medical students, residents, fellows, ancillary staff, and ARNPs.
  • Participate and contribute to quality improvement projects and/or curriculum development.

The successful candidate will have earned an MD or DO (or foreign equivalent).

Board certified/eligible in Pediatric Cardiology with 4th year advanced fellowship training in Heart Failure, Cardiomyopathy, and Transplant.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship  for an H-1B visa, graduates of a foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
