Position Description
Applications are invited for one or more non-tenure-track postdoctoral positions. The initial appointment is for a period of twelve months, full-time, with the possibility of renewal for a total period of up to three years, to begin in September 2023. Duties include engaging in ongoing and active independent research and teaching a full-time load of undergraduate and graduate courses. In particular, the job title will be “50% postdoctoral scholar, 50% teaching associate,” to reflect these two components of the job.
Postdoctoral scholars are represented by UAW 4121 and are subject to the collective bargaining agreement, unless agreed exclusion criteria apply. For more information, please visit the University of Washington Labor Relations website.

Qualifications
Applicants are required to have a PhD, or foreign equivalent, by the starting date, and to be highly qualified to teach a full-time load of undergraduate and graduate courses while also engaging in ongoing and active independent research.
Instructions
Applications must include the American Mathematical Society’s Cover Sheet for Academic Employment, a curriculum vitae, statements of research, diversity, and teaching interests, and at least three letters of recommendation. Priority will be given to applicants whose complete applications, including recommendations, are received by December 1, 2022.
Candidates must include a diversity statement that addresses their contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Possible examples of contributions include:
- Mentoring, both formal and informal, to students or trainees from underrepresented groups.
- Acting as a role model to students or trainees from underrepresented groups, perhaps by virtue of one’s background.
- Organizing diverse and inclusive conferences or seminar series.
- Involvement with organizations that primarily focus on underrepresented groups.
- Service to the department or mathematical community that relates to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Incorporating pedagogical practices that promote a more equitable and inclusive classroom.
- Identifying behavior, policies, etc., that can contribute to an unwelcoming environment, perhaps through one’s experiences, with the goal of changing them.
