P&T season is well underway, and we wanted to remind campus partners of a few key steps that are often overlooked and may cause delays in P&T record review by Academic HR (AHR).
Peer Teaching Evaluations
Peer evaluation of teaching is a review, conducted by faculty, of a colleague’s teaching performance, course content, and/or other activities that contribute to the unit’s curriculum or teaching program. For the purposes of P&T review,
each evaluation must include a written summary with the date of the evaluation and the name of the evaluator. This documentation must be shared with the faculty member being reviewed and added to their departmental personnel file.
UW Faculty Code Section 24-57 A requires that peer teaching evaluations be conducted on the following schedule:
- Every academic year for assistant professors, associate professors tenure-track, professors tenure-track, and artists in residence.
- At least once every 3 academic years for associate professors.
- Note: All faculty must have a peer evaluation in the academic year immediately preceding the academic year of their promotion review.*
*It is not too late to complete these evaluations in fall quarter 2020. We strongly recommend that campus partners reach out to candidates as soon as possible to ensure these requirements are met by the time
P&T records are due to AHR.
Education History
Education history is one of many data points considered during promotion review. Faculty and librarians who are being considered for promotion during the 2020-2021 review cycle must have their education history completed in Workday. Updates should be made using the
Manage Education-Academic Personnel business process.
Waiver Years
Having a clear record of the duration of and changes to the probationary period is an important consideration when reviewing
clock-managed faculty and librarian promotion cases. OAP worked with the ISC to configure Workday to support tracking of approved extensions of the mandatory clock (‘waiver years’). We are asking units to enter all previously-approved waiver years to academic records of faculty and librarians being reviewed for mandatory or non-mandatory promotion this year. Please complete this data entry before submitting promotion and tenure records to AHR.
To enter this data in Workday, follow Step 7 of the
Update Academic Appointment Track user guide. Use the reason code Mandatory Promotion Clock Adjustments > Other (AHR reason only), do not change the end date of the appointment, and choose the appropriate waived academic year(s) from the dropdown menu. Enter “2020-2021 P&T Waiver Update” into the comment field. Please contact your
AHR Specialist if you have questions or need assistance.
