Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action

Mission and vision

The vision of UW and EOAA is to uphold the laws and respect equal opportunity in the selection and advancement of all qualified applicants and employees within the institution.

Affirmative Action program and placement goals

The deans/chancellors and chairs/directors are provided annual updates to the University’s Affirmative Action Program.

Equal Opportunity statements and reasonable accommodation

Equal Opportunity and Reasonable Accommodation Statements must appear in all announcements, bulletins, catalogs, or application forms made available to applicants for admission and employment, employees, sources of referral of applicants for admission and employment, and members of the public.

Guidelines for pre-employment inquiries

Department administrators/search committees should take the following steps to comply with the University’s equal opportunity policy.

Affirmative Action data form guidance

The University of Washington is required by federal and state laws to collect and report certain information for the administration of civil rights laws and regulations.

Search waiver request policy

In determining the appropriateness of a search waiver, the Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action (EOAA) office also considers whether the waiver would result in a hire that supports UW’s affirmative action goals and other policies, such as being responsive to dual career couples. Classified positions are not eligible for the search waiver process.
