A friendly reminder that
UW Faculty Code Section 24-34.B-16 states, “The visiting scholar title is an honorary title awarded to persons who hold professorial (including research titles) positions at other institutions and who are visiting the University but who are not employed by the University during their stay. The purpose of this title is recognition of the visitor's presence at the University, and to make University facilities and privileges (library, etc.) available.”
It is important that units ensure that anyone they are recommending for a visiting scholar appointment does indeed hold a professorial appointment at another institution. In reviewing visiting scholar requests, OAP will be looking to make sure this key aspect of the policy is satisfied. Thanks in advance for helping to support the appropriate use of this academic title.
Although this is a courtesy title, it is still essential to document visiting scholar appointments in Workday which serves as the system of record for such appointments. When entering information in Workday, keep in mind that a visiting scholar must have an unpaid
academic position with a visiting scholar
academic appointment. For more guidance on academic positions and appointments in Workday, check out the
