General Summary
As noted in the August eDigest, one priority of our 2019-22 strategic plan is to review and update
Academic Titles and Ranks web content. We are excited to announce the launch of a new and improved structure for this web section. Some pages in the section--
professorial,
acting,
adjunct, and
visiting-- reflect the new design and include updated, thoroughly-reviewed content. Other titles and ranks pages have been modified to include a collection of existing pages that fall within a particular academic personnel category. These remaining pages will move to the new design later this fall, once we complete the content review.
New Clock-Managed Ranks Page
Concurrent with the new Academic Titles and Ranks pages, we have also reviewed, updated, and relocated other related content including a new
Clock-Managed Ranks page that centralizes information previously spread across a number of separate titles and ranks pages.
Clarification of Visiting Title Details
Through the titles and ranks content review project, we identified opportunities to clarify or implement procedural expectations to support compliance, data accuracy, and/or improved workflow. The revisions may represent a change in current practice for some units.
As an example, one area of clarification relates to visiting titles. Visiting titles include both faculty and academic staff appointments and represent temporary relationships at the UW. In accord with the temporary nature of visiting appointments, the revised web content now explicitly clarifies that faculty and academic staff are limited to two consecutive years in any visiting title and that subsequent appointment is possible after a reasonable period of return to their primary employment/home institution. Questions regarding this practice can be directed to
acadpers@uw.edu.
During the
OAP Quarterly Administrators Forum on Thursday, September 24, we will provide an overview of the new titles and ranks web strategy and content and leave time for discussion of impacts that may represent a change in practice for some units. We are committed to helping units ease into these expectations over the autumn quarter.
