Workday Position Details

  • Title: Postdoctoral Scholar – Conditional
  • Service Period: 12 months
  • Limitations on Position: Conditional position that may be held for no more than 12 months. Must be associated with one of the following academic appointments: Research Associate, Research Associate-Trainee, Senior Fellow, Senior Fellow-Trainee. Position is made on an exceptional basis for individuals who have confirmed completion of doctoral degree requirements (PhD or equivalent). Date of degree conferral must occur within the 12 month position period. Must otherwise meet definition of a Postdoctoral Scholar (see associated academic appointment titles and resources section below). Unless otherwise described, all other details related to this position are consistent with the associated academic appointment.
  • Length of Appointment: No more than 12 months*
  • Additional Information: When the doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) is conferred, the position title will change to align with the academic appointment title. Time spent within this position is counted toward the five (5) year maximum eligibility criteria for any of the Postdoctoral Scholar appointment titles (Research Associate, Research Associate-Trainee, Senior Fellow, Senior Fellow-Trainee).

  • Educational/Experience Requirements: Must present documentation confirming completion of doctoral degree requirements (PhD or equivalent) and date the degree will be conferred before the position start date. Note that the date the degree will be conferred must be within 12 months of the position start date. Must provide evidence of doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) conferral upon date of conferral.

  • Documentation Required: 
    • Except for proof of degree conferral, must otherwise meet all documentation requirements for the associated academic appointment (Research Associate, Research Associate-Trainee, Senior Fellow, Senior Fellow-Trainee).
    • Proof of completion of degree requirements: must consist of an official signed letter from the Registrar’s Office, graduate college or other appropriate administrative unit from the institution where the degree is being conferred. Must also provide the date the degree will be conferred. All of this documentation must be sent directly from the institution where the degree will be conferred. A letter from a faculty advisor or counselor is not acceptable.

Termination Details*

  • If a degree is not conferred or if no evidence of degree conferral is provided on or after the specified degree conferral date, the University shall provide a courtesy notice to the Postdoctoral Scholar, alerting him or her that the required documentation has not been received and stating the date on which the appointment and position will terminate if documentation is not provided. If the University does not thereafter receive evidence of degree conferral, the conditional appointment and position as a Postdoctoral Scholar will terminate.
