Situated on the ancestral and traditional territory of the dxʷdəwʔabš (Duwamish people) and the Coast Salish peoples, the College of Education at the University of Washington, Seattle (UW), invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor in Applied Behavior Analysis. The position will carry the non-tenure rank of Assistant Teaching Professor and is a three-year, 9-month position at 100% FTE with two paid months of summer available based on curricular need. Renewal of this appointment will be considered in the second year of the appointment.

 

The College of Education at the University of Washington is seeking an innovative doctoral-level Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to serve as an Assistant Teaching Professor and Program Director for our applied behavior analysis program (https://education.uw.edu/programs/graduate/special-education/aba). This scholar will join a faculty committed to preparing graduate students in applied behavior analysis to prepare them for the national BACB certification exam and for a career working with people with disabilities using evidence-based behavioral intervention strategies. The role combines program development and applied behavior analysis and intervention for students with autism, developmental disabilities, and related disabilities. The ABA program at the UW is situated in a special education program and a College of Education that works toward disability justice and examines the intersections of ability and race. The ABA program at the UW includes a traditional on-campus program and a synchronous online program. The University of Washington’s ABA Online Program was recently voted the #2 ABA online program in the country and was recently voted the best behavioral psychology program by the Accredited Online College. 

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  1. Lead the UW Applied behavior analysis (ABA) program development team striving to make meaningful connections between university and field experiences to high quality, equitable application of applied behavior analysis in schools, homes, and communities.
  2. Teach master’s level courses per year in both the in-person and synchronous online ABA programs.
  3. Coordinate the evaluation of the ABA distance education program and the link between classroom and applied opportunities to practice content.
  4. Coordinate the program’s applied supervision component, including overseeing doctoral-student supervisors. Ensure that supervisors are prepared to provide culturally responsive feedback and to support and work with students with diverse racial, linguistic, and cultural identifies.
  5. Work with the ABA program faculty and supervisors to provide culturally aware student support structures and processes for monitoring student progress through the program.
  6. Work with Professional and Continuing Education Staff and the fiscal staff in the College of Education to manage the program operating budget and to implement the program with fidelity.
  7. Collaborate with ABA and college faculty in the development and implementation of recruitment efforts, particularly focused on increasing the number of BIPOC students.
  8. Work with colleagues on campus and national ABA Professional Organizations to ensure that the ABA Program curriculum reflects our strong commitment to and promotion of educational equity and social justice.
  9. Coordinate Professional Preparation Division initiatives to maintain the ABA program and ensure that it is well integrated with the COE initiatives of advancing equity and social justice.

Qualifications

  • All candidates must (1) have an earned doctorate or foreign equivalent in applied behavior analysis, special education, psychology, or a related field; (2) hold board-certification in behavior analysis (BCBA) in good standing; (3) have university teaching experience (minimum of 3 years); (4) be fluent in the BACB certification requirements; and (5) have experience supervising doctoral students.
