ASSISTANT TEACHING PROFESSOR, FULL-TIME: The Department of Geography at the University of Washington invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor to specialize in geographic information sciences and technology (GIS&T). This position will complement and extend the Department’s existing strengths through dynamic, innovative instruction. The successful candidate will offer introductory to advanced courses in GIS, spatial analysis and modeling, geovisualization, and/or remote sensing, including courses that teach programming skills for geospatial applications. This is a renewable non-tenure track position, with an initial appointment term of 3 years. This position requires teaching and service. The candidate will teach a total of six courses during Autumn, Winter and Spring Quarters. The criteria for merit evaluation and promotion in Teaching Professor titles at the University of Washington are based primarily on teaching and service, and not on research. Anticipated start date is September 16, 2022. 

The Department of Geography consistently ranks among the top geography departments in the US. Our students learn about the spatiality of economic, cultural, political and ecological processes, master a wide range of spatial methodologies, and develop conceptual and analytic tools for understanding and acting on local and global challenges around impoverishment, housing, health, labor rights, racial justice, immigration, climate change and more. The Department has strong connections to campus units that include Center for American Indian & Indigenous Studies; Law, Societies and Justice; Center for Studies in Demography and Ecology; the eScience Institute; the Jackson School of International Studies; Labor Studies; and the Simpson Center for the Humanities. Qualifications

The successful candidate’s record will demonstrate excellence in teaching, and innovative approaches to pedagogies and curriculum in GIScience, human geography and/or related fields. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in geography or a related field.
