Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C), SCCA Proton Therapy Center
Position Overview
Organization: Radiation Oncology
Title: Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C), SCCA Proton Therapy Center
Position Details
Position Description
The Department of Radiation Oncology has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (ARNP or PA-C). The successful candidate’s primary site of practice will be at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Proton Therapy Center located on the campus of UW Medicine Northwest Medical Center in North Seattle and is fully staffed by UW Department of Radiation Oncology faculty physicians. It is the sole Proton Center in the Pacific Northwest and therefore a tertiary referral site for the entire 5-state WWAMI (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho) region.
The selected candidate will be proposed for appointment to the full-time faculty at the University of Washington as Teaching Associate with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2022. Teaching Associates hold annual appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30) and may be reappointed to subsequent annual terms. Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.
The ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner with an integrated role which includes clinical and education components. The ARNP/PA-C works in collaboration with physicians and actively coordinates the complex care of cancer patients undergoing proton beam therapy. Under the general supervision of an attending physician, the successful candidate will provide post-treatment follow-up for patients with prostate cancer (Survivorship Clinic), as well as manage acute on-treatment medical issues for patients receiving proton radiation treatment. Successful candidates must possess the ability to function independently.
Specific responsibilities include:
1) Manage a surveillance/survivorship program for patients with prostate cancer after completing radiation treatment.
2) Provide scheduled and unscheduled care for patients undergoing daily radiation treatment.
3) Manage care coordination for cancer patients with referring physicians/medical oncology/surgery
Expected work hours are likely Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm.
NOTE: This position will require work to be performed on-site at a Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) facility. SCCA requires all individuals, including University of Washington faculty clinicians, working at an SCCA facility to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Unlike UW’s vaccination policy which is appended below, the SCCA policy does not provide for religious or medical exemptions. As such, a UW offer associated with this recruitment is contingent upon, among other things, the preferred candidate demonstrating that they are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by no later than the commencement of their appointment.
