The Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) at the University of Washington is seeking a candidate for appointment as Assistant Professor.  The DLMP is committed to providing support, including start-up resources and laboratory space, to promote the candidate’s long-term success in the Department. The DLMP is a large organization with excellence in broad areas of study, well supported by extramural funding ( 

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an independent laboratory and collaborate with members of the DLMP, and other faculty within the University and Affiliated institutions. It is also expected that the successful candidate will participate in the teaching and training of graduate students in the Department’s Masters and/or Ph.D. programs.

This is a 12-month active service [July 1-June 30], full-time position that is open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2021, but the start date is flexible. This position is officially designated as “without tenure by reason of funding (WOT)”, as are most appointments in the UW School of Medicine.  Faculty appointed WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than regularly appropriated state funds. Except for this distinction, WOT faculty members have the same rights, responsibilities, and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks.


Candidates must have a MD, Ph.D. or both in Biology, Medicine or a related field, or foreign equivalent. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
