The University of Washington Tacoma (UW Tacoma) invites applicants for two full-time non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor in Chemistry positions in the Division of Sciences and Mathematics (SAM) within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). This is a full-time renewable teaching position with an appointment term of one to five years and a nine-month service period beginning mid-September 2021, contingent upon funding. All University of Washington Teaching Professor-rank faculty engage in teaching, student mentorship, and service, but have no research expectations. This position includes faculty voting rights but is not tenure-eligible.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be able to teach Organic Chemistry (T CHEM 251, 261, and/or 271). We are especially interested in candidates who can also teach Biochemistry (T CHEM 405, 406) and General Chemistry (T CHEM 142, 152, 162). The successful candidate is expected to engage with culturally diverse populations in higher education, integrate a variety of evidence-based and inclusive pedagogical techniques and curricular perspectives into teaching and learning, and mentor diverse students in the sciences. The successful candidate is expected to engage in service at the institutional, divisional, and community levels.
The candidate must demonstrate competence in teaching and have, at minimum, a Master’s degree, or foreign equivalent in chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, chemical education, or a related field. The candidate must have prior experience teaching organic chemistry lecture, recitation, or laboratory as an instructor or teaching assistant at the university or college level.

Also include prior academic, professional, and community service experience as well as any leadership roles.
2) A cover letter detailing your interest in the position and outlining how your qualifications and experience match the position’s description and the mission of the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences and UW Tacoma.
3) A diversity statement (two page maximum) detailing how you will engage with students in our multicultural classrooms and how your additional service, community engagement, and/or scholarly engagement supports the success of students from various racial, ethnic and gender backgrounds. 4) A teaching philosophy statement describing your approach to course planning, preparation, assessment, and measuring effectiveness (two page maximum).
5) Evidence of teaching effectiveness, which may include a sample syllabus, quantitative student evaluations, and/or a peer or supervisor teaching evaluation.
