The Department of Pharmacy is seeking motivated candidates for two, full-time, 100% FTE, 12-month service period non-tenure track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor (anticipated start date of March 1st, 2023.) These positions will provide practice-based instruction in the PharmD program. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The Assistant Teaching Professor(s) will exercise independent clinical decision-making skills while also establishing team collaborations. The ideal candidate will be expected to teach in both the classroom and in experiential settings. Department of Pharmacy faculty are expected to address the emerging needs of pharmacy education. The successful candidate will be expected to engage in student-centered teaching focused on patient-centered care, progressive pharmacy practice and to teach about the pharmacy practice landscape. The successful candidate will be expected to use innovative approaches to teaching, including practice-related skills to design and coordinate courses. Candidates in all areas of pharmacy, including but not limited to general internal medicine, family medicine, and/or pediatrics are welcome to apply. Positive factors for consideration include but are not limited to experience in classroom teaching and course coordination that will inform the education and training of the next generation pharmacist and address expanding gaps in health-care disparities in vulnerable populations, other advance degrees (e.g., MS, MPH) and board certification (e.g., BCPS, BCACP)
The successful candidate will join a diverse department (50 faculty with over 400 adjunct, affiliate, and clinical faculty) with nationally recognized expertise in pharmacotherapeutics, clinical pharmacology, geriatrics, pharmacogenomics, translational research, pharmacoepidemiology, health economics, outcomes research, and health policy evaluation. The School of Pharmacy ranks #3 in the U.S. for total research funding per faculty member. Faculty received 67 grants and awards in 2021 totaling more than $24 million. The collaboration opportunities at the University of Washington are unparalleled and include the six health sciences schools (dentistry, nursing, medicine, pharmacy, public health, and social work) as well as the Institute of Translational Health Sciences, UW Medical Center, VA Puget Sound Health Care System, Seattle Children’s, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute, the Gates Foundation, and PATH.
The base salary range for this position will be [$9,000 - $11,000] per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
Qualifications
- PharmD degree (or foreign equivalent), and 2 years of post-graduate training (PGY1 or 2) residency or fellowship. 4 years of equivalent pharmacy practice experience will be accepted in lieu of 2-year fellowship or residency.
- Proven contemporary pharmacy practice experience and clinical skills
- 2 years of demonstrated patient care-focused PharmD teaching experience
- Washington State Pharmacist licensure will be required.
