UW Continuum College (UWC2) has an outstanding opportunity for a part-time instructor for the Professional and Continuing Education (PCE), Certificate in Embedded & Real-Time Programming, specifically for the third course in the certificate series, Design & Optimization of Embedded & Real-Time Systems, which is taught real-time online in the spring. The Instructor plays a key role in our certificate programs, engaging with students, serving as a subject matter expert, presenting learning content, and assessing whether learners have achieved course competencies. Our students consistently tell us that the instructor is the single most important element of their course.
Professional and Continuing Education Instructors...
- Teach a set curriculum plan with clear learning outcomes and competencies
- Prepare a course syllabus in advance of the course start date (templates provided)
- Ensure that lesson plans and presentation materials for the full course are relevant and current
- Teach all class sessions at the scheduled time
- Respond to student inquiries and provide feedback on student assignments in a timely manner
- Coordinate with other instructors in the certificate program, to ensure curriculum continuity across courses
- Adapt instructional techniques based on feedback from students and the Program Manager, and implement sound pedagogical practices
- Complete instructor onboarding, relevant learning technology training, and other training as needed
- Observe FERPA, HIPAA, and other privacy laws and policies.
- Participate in 1-2 instructor meetings and information sessions per year
In collaboration with the instructional team for the certificate, the instructor for Design & Optimization of Embedded & Real-Time Systems will provide 3 hours of online teaching per week (course class time), plus preparation time, and provision of student assessment and feedback. Preparation time includes readiness to use UW online platforms and learning technologies. An approximate average of 6 hours total per week is expected for preparation and teaching activities. Additional time will be needed for student communications, team meetings and program staff consultations.

UWC2 Extension Lecturers / Instructors are Academic Staff, not faculty. This is a part-time, temporary position.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum three years of professional experience related to Embedded and Real-Time Programming
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Ability, and desire, to work with individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds
- Willingness to teach with minimal supervision while maintaining high standards of professionalism, punctuality, and content relevance for diverse adult students
- Legal authorization to work and receive compensation in the United States
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior teaching or mentoring experience, particularly with adult learners
- Prior experience teaching/presenting in an online learning environment
- Undergraduate or graduate degree in relevant field
- Proficiency in the following topics from this course:
- Reactive and asynchronous software architecture
- C++ for embedded systems
- Open-source development toolchain
- Object-oriented statechart design, patterns and framework
- Integration with sensor, connectivity and display modules
- Optimization with DMA and other hardware resources
