Position Description

The Department of Radiology in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle is recruiting for one full-time (100% FTE) faculty position at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor without tenure (WOT) by reason of funding, commensurate with experience, to join the department with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023.    Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30).  Associate Professors WOT and full Professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period  (July 1-June 30).  Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off.

The section seeks an individual who will engage in scholarly work, teaching, and clinical service in a mixture of pulmonary and cardiac imaging.  The successful candidate will work with cardiovascular MRI and CT, chest CT and chest radiographs.

The Cardiothoracic Imaging section currently has six faculty members with a range of expertise in pulmonary and cardiac imaging and provides pulmonary, vascular, cardiac CT and MR diagnostic interpretations.  The section maintains close relationships with internal medicine, pulmonology, oncology, bone marrow transplantation, cardiology, and cardiac and thoracic surgery services at all hospital sites; the University of Washington Medical Center Montlake and Northwest campuses, Harborview Medical Center, and Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.  Cardiothoracic Imaging has an active fellowship program and faculty are responsible for the instruction of cardiothoracic imaging fellows, in addition to medical students and diagnostic radiology residents.

The University of Washington (UW) is a leading referral center for interstitial lung diseases, lung transplantation, thoracic surgery, thoracic oncology, structural and congenital heart disease, interventional cardiology and hematology.  Cardiothoracic Imaging conducts conferences for inpatient internal medicine services, pulmonary medicine, interventional cardiology, oncology, and the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, a premier transplantation center.

UW is listed as one of the nation’s top public educational and research institutions, and the School of Medicine has been ranked second in the world, among the top two recipients of federal research grants.  Our hospitals consistently rank among the very best.  The Department of Radiology is internationally recognized as dynamic, progressive, and high impact, consummate with UW Medicine's ranking as one of the nation's leading healthcare delivery enterprises.  All UW faculty engage in teaching, research, and service.

Seattle is a cosmopolitan city that ranks among the top urban areas for quality of life.  It is a hub for aerospace, technology, and maritime industries, and is a headquartered by some of the world's largest companies.  Seattle is also family-friendly with nationally ranked schools.  The proximity of water, forests, and mountains attract nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts.  Our faculty enjoy outstanding benefits, strong support for professional growth, and an environment noted for diversity, community involvement, intellectual excitement, and artistic pursuits.
