Position Description

The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington, seeks a pathologist as an Assistant Professor WOT (without tenure), due to reasons of funding, to join our Immunology Division on the clinician-educator pathway. The primary service responsibility will be to participate in the direction of the Department’s Clinical Immunology Laboratory.  Clinical service work includes signing-out cases for identification and quantitation of monoclonal immunoglobulins, participation in evaluation and development of clinical assays, and providing oversight of quality management. Applicants are expected to develop an area of scholarly work / focused research; an extramurally-funded research program is highly desirable, but not a requirement.  Additional responsibilities include the teaching of residents, fellows, medical students and medical laboratory scientist program undergraduates and masters students. Positive factors for consideration include, but are not limited to, evidence of subspecialized expertise in Clinical Immunology and / or a PhD in Immunology or a closely related field, and evidence of leadership, through recognition by a national laboratory medicine and pathology organization.

Assistant Professors WOT are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). This is a full-time, 12-month service position and remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2023, but is flexible. 

The base salary range for this position will be $17,580 to $20,043 per month ($210,960 to $240,515 annually), commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization. 

Other compensation associated with this position may include an administrative salary supplement.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will possess an MD (or foreign equivalent) and be board certified or board-eligible in clinical pathology or a related field. Documented experience participating in the direction of clinical laboratories and in the clinical interpretation of test results is required. A record of scholarly achievement, as documented by publications, is also required. 

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H1-B visa, graduates of foreign (non-US) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the US Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
