Position Details


The Department of Radiation Oncology at the University of Washington, School of Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time Teaching Associate/Advanced Practice Provider (APP) (ARNP or PA), 100% FTE. The Advanced Practice Provider’s integrated role includes clinical, education and the opportunity of research components. The APP works in collaboration with physicians to actively coordinate the care of cancer patients undergoing radiation therapy at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA) Radiation Oncology clinic. Under the general supervision of an attending physician, the APP will participate in initial consultations, continuity of care, such as on-treatment visits and post-treatment follow-up visits. The APP will provide care in a variety of radiation oncology focus areas, including leukemia, lymphoma, gynecologic cancer, breast cancer, and genitourinary cancer, and cancer metastases. An oncology background and the ability to function independently are desired.

Specific responsibilities include: Provide patient care by evaluating the physical and psychological state of the cancer patient; perform physical examinations on patients; manage side-effects related to radiation therapy and immediately following post-treatment period; order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies; prescribe medications and refer patient to other specialists as necessary, communicate closely with attending, house staff physicians and referring physicians. The APP will also: provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching counseling and rehabilitation; refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning; document through dictation and chart notes in accordance with SCCA and UWP compliance requirements for billing.

Minimum Qualifications: Licensed in the State of Washington as an Adult Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner Licensed in the state of Washington with Prescriptive Authority or Certified as a Physician Assistant and licensed in the State of Washington.  Must be approved for a faculty Teaching Associate position by the School of Medicine and eligible to receive hospital staff privileges.
