The University of Washington (Seattle, WA) invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral research associate (Job Class 0148), with likely renewal for a second year. The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dan Eisenberg, Assistant Professor of anthropology. Ideal applicants will have broad interests in the evolutionary anthropology of living humans. The postdoctoral fellow is likely to work on an NSF-funded project to investigate telomere biology using data and samples from the Cebu Longitudinal Health and Nutrition Survey (in collaboration with Christopher Kuzawa at Northwestern University). The position is 100% FTE for 12 months and offers a competitive salary of at least $47,476 plus benefits. The anticipated start date is July 1, 2017, but this is negotiable for possible earlier or later start.
- The candidate will work in collaboration with Professor Eisenberg, on research projects related to the evolutionary biology of aging, life history theory and/or intergenerational plasticity.
- The candidate will lead and manage day-to-day operations of the Anthropological Genetics Lab, including mentoring of undergraduate research students.
- Collaborative research, discussion, and presentation of research results are expected.
Minimum/Basic Qualification required:
By the start date, all elements of the Ph.D., including the dissertation, must be completed and the degree conferred in biological anthropology, or similar field, with an emphasis on molecular genetics preferred.
Additional Required Qualifications:
- Ph.D. must be conferred less than six years prior to starting date.
- Research interests that are appropriate to the Anthropological Genetics Lab.
- Experience with molecular genetics laboratory techniques including DNA extraction, PCR and ideally qPCR.
- Strong organizational skills both inside and outside of the lab are essential.
- Demonstrated ability to publish in English-language peer-reviewed journals.
