The University of Washington Global Center for Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents and Children (Global WACh), is recruiting for one full-time faculty position at the Assistant Professor without tenure level in the Department of Global Health in the Schools of Medicine and Public Health.

Global WACh is a Center based in UW School of Medicine and School of Public Health, established jointly in 2011 by the Departments of Global Health, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics/Gynecology. The mission of Global WACh is to make scientific discoveries, cultivate leaders, and bridge disciplines to advance the tightly connected health and wellbeing of women, adolescents, and children. Global WACh is unique in its lifecycle lens approach, which focuses on these three groups as a single interconnected system-rather than three separate populations. Global WACh provides training (seminars, courses, graduate certificate program, internships), mentorship, funding for new investigators, and collaborative research support. The Center has three major cores of research that include Infectious Diseases, Family Planning and Maternal Health, and Healthy Growth and Development.

The candidate selected for the position will join both the University of Washington faculty and the Executive leadership team of Global WACh. As part of Global WACh’s Executive team, the candidate will have an important role in expanding and refining the Center’s vision and activities. Responsibilities will include mentoring graduate and post-doctoral trainees and conducting independent interdisciplinary research.

Applicants should have an MD, DO and/or PhD (or foreign equivalent) in a medical or public health-related field as well as a record of advocacy, research, policy, and teaching consistent with the mission of Global WACh, with a focus on enteric health, diarrheal disease and child survival in resource-limited or underserved populations. The incumbent will be involved in the design and implementation of clinical trials and observational studies aimed at reducing morbidity and mortality from common childhood infectious diseases in sub-Saharan Africa and south Asia. Experience working in low-resource settings, managing large study teams, and a strong foundation in epidemiologic methods is preferred. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate the potential to develop their own research program and engage in collaborative research and teaching activities.
