The University of Washington, Department of Global Health (School of Medicine and School of Public Health and Community Medicine) in Seattle, Washington, is seeking a full-time faculty at the level of Assistant Professor in the without tenure (WOT) track. This position will be supported by Health Alliance International (HAI) a Center in the Department. HAI works to build local capacity for health system strengthening and improved primary health care service delivery in the developing world through rigorous implementation science and operations research conducted in close collaboration with public sector partners in the countries where HAI conducts activities.
The incumbent will be expected to design and conduct implementation science and operations research, quality improvement activities, and evaluation components of HAI global programs in mental health care and treatment with the goal of ensuring the quality and effectiveness of capacity development efforts in low resource settings. The successful candidate will have research and teaching experience related to the delivery of mental health services in developing countries and significant international experience, preferably in sub-Saharan Africa. In addition, candidates should have experience in classroom teaching, curriculum development, and mentoring of graduate students in thesis or dissertation work.
Responsibilities: Leading the expansion of implementation science programs within HAI and the University of Washington on mental health services in developing countries where HAI or UW partners conduct research; pursuing new grant funding opportunities for mental health implementation science projects and program support; developing collaborations with a variety of global health stakeholders interested in implementing and using the findings from operations research, implementation science and quality improvement activities related to mental health care; mentoring graduates students at UW and abroad; participating in graduate level global health curriculum development, including development of distance learning offerings; evaluation of new program initiatives; classroom teaching for students in the MPH and PhD programs; student advising, including thesis and dissertation supervision for MPH and PhD students; and participation as faculty members in other activities of the Department of Global Health. This position requires extensive international travel. University of Washington faculty engages in teaching, research and service.
Requirements: PhD in epidemiology, implementation science, or related field in public health, or MD or foreign equivalent with specialization in mental health or related field, and an MPH or foreign equivalent; substantial experience in global health and public sector health system technical assistance; principal investigator on current global mental health grants; experience in global health implementation science and operations research, quality improvement, and evaluation; a successful history of publication and conference presentations. Teaching experience and mentoring skills in an MPH graduate degree program required.
Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience and level of appointment.
