The School of Art + Art History + Design at the University of Washington welcomes applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Interdisciplinary Visual Arts (IVA) Program in the Division of Art. The appointment starts in September 2018 on a nine-month service period and is a 100%-time appointment.
This track of the BA in Art degree provides students with a diverse range of studio art experiences. Students select from a menu of courses in studio art, art history, and experiential learning, i.e., internships and study abroad. The candidate will also participate in graduate education. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our school and thrive in the context of a public research university.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- Evidence of research, professional accomplishment and engagement in contemporary art with an expertise related to more than one of these mediums: works on paper, printmaking, book arts, fiber arts, performance, video, photography, digital media, installation, new genres and/or emerging practices.
- Evidence of successful teaching experience with the ability to teach a variety of classes and artistic skill sets.
- The ability to guide and mentor students in seeing or creating connections between diverse ways of making and conceptualizing in arts practice.
- Expertise/interest in engaging and collaborating with fields outside of art is desirable.
Qualifications: MFA (or foreign equivalent), a demonstrated record of creative practice, leadership, and commitment to research and teaching.
