The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) seeks a 90% – 100% FTE family physician with a passion for medical student education teaching and excellence in patient care. Appointment will be on the clinician teacher track at the assistant professor or associate professor level dependent on experience. This is a non-tenured position academic appointment consistent with all other residency and medical student education faculty.
This position will provide 60% time with medical student education (MSE) in leadership positions in the 1) Underserved Pathway (35%). The Pathway provides students with mentoring, a foundation of knowledge, and a variety of real-world experiences and with 2) Rural Programs (25%). The rural office develops and maintains educational programs that focus on strong relationships with physicians and institutions throughout the Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana and Idaho (WWAMI). Up to 40% time will be in clinical patient care as well as teaching residents and students at Harborview Medical Center whose patients include urban underserved and culturally and ethnically diverse populations. This clinician is expected to participate in the full-spectrum of clinical family medicine practice including inpatient attending. Obstetrical care is highly desired. Other duties may be assigned by the MSE director or Chair. Teaching and training experience in medical education is strongly preferred as is recent direct practice-based patient care experience. Applicants are required to have an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent with current certification by the American Board of Family Medicine.
University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduate of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
