Position Details


The University of Washington School of Medicine seeks a full-time Professor with tenure and Chair of the Department of Radiology.  Candidates should have proven collaborative leadership skills to direct the clinical, research, and educational programs of the department, and demonstrate a strong clinical practice background, excellence in scholarship, and administrative experience.

The department provides teaching, research, and clinical service by outstanding faculty members renowned for their expertise in all areas of radiology. The department currently consists of 10 academic sections: Breast Imaging, Body Imaging, Thoracic Imaging, Musculoskeletal, Neuroradiology, Emergency Radiology, Interventional Radiology, Pediatric Radiology, Diagnostic Physics, and Nuclear Medicine.  The department comprises 133 faculty members, including physicians, physician assistants, advanced registered nurse practitioners, and scientists, and 150 residents, fellows, and post-doctoral students.

It is also inspired by the goals of healthcare that is more accessible, less invasive, lower cost, and has optimal outcomes.  The radiology training programs are geared toward creating physicians and scientists who care deeply and see innovation as central to the challenges of the changing healthcare environment.

The department serves as the primary teaching program for a five-state region that includes Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. Major research programs supported by endowments and federally funded grants enable departmental research and scholarship to flourish. Clinical care is provided at state of the art facilities within UW Medicine including University of Washington Medical Center and its Eastside Specialty Care site, Harborview Medical Center, Northwest Hospital, Seattle Children’s Hospital, the Puget Sound VA Healthcare System, and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.

Qualifications

Successful candidates must possess an MD or foreign equivalent, national leadership experience and a strong commitment to programmatic excellence in clinical services, education, and independent, original research.  A successful candidate must have demonstrated excellence in working with faculty, administration, residents, and students from a wide range of disciplines, culture, and academic backgrounds throughout the community. Candidates must be board certified by the American Board of Radiology or American Board of Nuclear Medicine and eligible for a medical license in Washington State. In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S.) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE), or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
