The University of Washington School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS) invites applications for a full-time (9-month; 100% FTE) tenure-track Assistant Professor (0116) position to begin Autumn 2017. The aim is to enhance SEFS’ research and teaching capabilities in the area of water resources engineering in the context of sustainable production. The position intends to leverage departmental and university strengths to establish UW as an innovation leader in the preservation of finite water and material resources, environmental protection, and sustainable production of forest products including fuels and chemicals.
Particular areas of specialization could include but are not limited to, hydrology, water treatment with natural or physical-chemical methods, reuse of wastewater, water resources or other applicable environmental engineering, runoff management, and beneficial use of biosolid and similar waste materials.
The individual in this faculty position will be expected to:
- Contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives – for example, the University’s Freshwater Initiative (http://freshwater.uw.edu/) and the Biofuels and Bioproducts Laboratory (http://depts.washington.edu/sfrbbl/) – and to develop and lead a relevant and self-sustaining research program.
- Be a leading contributor to existing courses and to the development of innovative undergraduate and graduate curricula that integrate environmental science and resource management, bioresource science and engineering, and environmental engineering. An ideal candidate would have the capability to teach undergraduate courses in wildland hydrology and industrial water engineering.
- Engage in university and public service relevant to their professional expertise.
The person appointed to this position must:
- Hold a bachelor’s degree engineering field or closely related, or be a licensed professional engineer in good standing.
- Hold a Ph.D. or foreign equivalent in an appropriate area of engineering, hydrology, or a closely related field.
- Have demonstrated interests in teaching and mentoring.
