The Department of Medicine at the University of Washington (UW) is recruiting a new Head for the Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. The Division at UW has a long tradition of excellence in basic and clinical research, education, and patient care. It has over 80 full-time faculty, over 250 staff, trains a new class of 8 ID fellows per year, and had over $30 million in research grant and contract funding for FY16. The Division is internationally recognized for a variety of subspecialties, including HIV/AIDS and other sexually transmitted diseases and infections, viral diseases, immune-compromised hosts, bacterial pathogenesis, global health, urinary tract infections, the human microbiome, drug and vaccine development, and the molecular biology of infectious diseases. Established centers such as the Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (CERID) and the Center for AIDS and STD Research exemplify the Division’s commitment to basic and clinical research. There is a close partnership with the UW Department of Global Health; many faculty have dual appointments and active field sites for research. The applicant should be clinically active in Infectious Diseases with American Board of Internal Medicine ID certification or foreign equivalent qualification. We seek an MD or MD/PhD-trained (or foreign equivalent) individual with vision and a history of excellence in clinical work, scholarship (including research), administration, education, and mentorship to lead all Division activities. The ideal candidate would have an established track record of extramural funding and publications in clinical, outcomes or basic research. Demonstrated administrative leadership experience is required. Appointment to the full-time faculty (12-month, multi-year appointment) would be at the rank of associate (0102, 0112) or full professor (0101, 0111), with tenure, or without tenure (WOT) due to funding, commensurate with qualifications.
